African Institute for Mathematical Sciences
Cape Town, R.S.A.     2006-present     Lecturer, "Introduction to Climate Modeling": Dec. 2006     Lecturer, "Environmental Modeling": Feb.-Mar. 2006 AIMS is a 1-year postgraduate program for graduates from African universities with undergraduate degrees in mathematics or science, founded in 2003. AIMS is a partnership between three South African Universities (Cape Town, Stellenbosch, and UWC) and three European ones (Cambridge, Oxford, and Paris-Sud-XI). Courses are taught by invited international lecturers, with students covering an entire semester's course in 3 weeks. The goal of AIMS is to give these high-achieving and highly motivated students an intensive learning experience that emphasizes independence of thought and research in preparation for master's or PhD programs and eventually for careers in science, education, industry, and government. AIMS graduates have come from 18 different African countries; most are currently in graduate school in South Africa, Europe, and the United States.
